All About
Beer Magazine
All About Beer Magazine
has been around for twenty years. That's a helluva longtime for a
journal to survive in a country where those who drink beer tend to do so
without thinking or reading about what they drink. As a dopey cousin
of mine recently grumbled, "A magazine about beer? What's there to
know? You drink it and that's that." This came, surprise, surprise,
from a Busch drinker.
Somehow, though, All About Beer
has managed to survive and prosper. My guess is that it has achieved this
by turning out a fine product and doing a lot of legwork to spread the
word among that small core of serious beer consumers in this country. |
| To them, All About Beer is indispensable, keeping them abreast of
the latest in beer. Whether it's the ads for new beers coming out,
the articles on the history of beer, reviews of new books on beer, the
latest in brewing (e.g., new breweries opening, old ones closing)- you
name it, they cover it and do so in a way that is interesting but very
readable. One wonders if Editor Julie Johnson Bradford has a sign
above her office door reading, "Don't even think of bringing me dull prose."
All About Beer comes out 6
times per year and usually has 80 or more pages. The May issue, for
example, had pieces on American Pilsners, organic brewing, the healthful
effects of drinking beer, columns by Michael Jackson and other students
of beer, and more. Whether you're a beer snob or a poor soul who
wants advice on what beers are worth drinking and what's rot, All About
Beer Magazine is a must-have.
