| Jameson Irish Whiskey
by F. Sot Fitzgerald From Midleton Distillery, the place that brings you the not so grand Tullamore Dew, comes Jameson Irish Whiskeys. Jameson is a huge selling whiskey, in part, because it has mucho advertising dollars behind it (can we say, Pernod Ricard)? However, all the moola in the world can make rubies from rubbish. So Jameson has earned its high place through quality whiskey. I've atsted three different Jameson Irish whiskeys. As you see below, all earned high grades. |
| Jameson: 12 years old, sweet
and a little smoky. Very viscous and soft. It's tripled distilled
and quite attractive. (Rating ***3/4)
Jameson 1780: So very different from the standard Jameson! Also tripled distilled and matured 12 years, but sherry casked. Less sweet, the sherry comes through and it has an almost oily (like olive oil) feel. Definitely worth trying. (Rating ****) Jameson Gold:
Astonishingly good- no wonder that a bottle goes for $70-$80. Deep
gold, far darker than the others. Intense and showing flavors of
honey, barley, orange peel and more. Wow.
