Red Army Vodka
The lore has it that this vodka was originally cooked up for at Stalin's urging. He didn't want his troops drinking swill, so Red Army vodka was born. The lore further claims that the recipe was recently re-discovered, and so here we have it- Red Army vodka, made in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, in the hulking Regata-Alko distillery from Winter Wheat. |

Between the tallish-tale story behind the brand and the wild packaging (staffers have noted that it looks like a tube of lipstick, a mortar shell, or an immense vibrator) you might think this Red Army was nothing but clever packaging. You'd be sorely mistaken. Whatever its true origins, Red Army is fantastic vodka, really bang up stuff. It's distilled four times and filtered nine times. After chilling it in the freezer for a day, we sipped it straight up. it was delgihtful- nutty, soft, and a touch sweet. In the mouth it had less heat and more grain than Stoli. Truly impressive.
