Anthony Road 1999 Riesling
by F. Sot Fitzgerald

Whenever I go shopping for Riesling I come away angry and depressed.  Like Gewurtztraminer, Riesling always seems to be so damn expensive.  As I naturally tend toward the $12 and under price range, I'm usually left staring stupidly at the wine shelves, torn between buying Rat's Rear Riesling or ponying up a few more bucks to get something that's consumable.

This is where Anthony Road Wine Company rides to the rescue.  Their 1999 Riesling costs only $8.50 a bottle.  It starts with a stiff citrus note that I dug but Zelduh found a bit much, then glides into a long melon-canteloupe note.  It's an inexpensive white that's just dandy in sweltering weather or with spicy Thai or stir fry.  (Rating ***1/2)
