While Chilean wines are fawned over by wine enthusiasts, Argentinean wines often gotten bad press.  Witness this slam by Philip Seldon in his The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wine, Second Edition:  "With the exception of a few superior reds, Argentinean wines seem rough on the palate and ordinary in quality."  Ouch.
